Rafting the Río Fonce
San Gil's home river: bouncy rapids, swim stops and a finish line by the park.

Moss-draped river island in town
El Gallineral is San Gil's calm side: a four-hectare island where the Quebrada Curití splits around it before meeting the Fonce. Its trees wear long grey beards of Spanish moss — 'barbas de viejo' — and the light through them is something else.
Colombia's official tourism site counts nearly two thousand trees on the island, many draped in Spanish moss. Stone paths and little bridges loop through them, the river is never out of earshot, and because the park is big for its visitors you can usually find a quiet corner to read or just sit.
The municipal institute that runs it lists a pool for adults and children and a restaurant with Santander food. The Fonce rafting trip finishes at the Malecón right beside the park, so it's a natural place to dry off after the river. There's an entry fee, and foreign visitors pay a different rate from locals.
No prices here on purpose: they depend on the operator, the date and the group. Ask us and we’ll confirm current terms.
The park has a pool for adults and children, with a separate fee.
An hour for a slow loop; longer if you bring a book or use the pool.
Spanish moss, called 'barba de viejo' (old man's beard) here. It's what gives the park its fairy-tale look.

Your own ring, real rapids
Same river as the Fonce raft trip, but this time you are the boat.
Cold streams, warm rocks
The rest day San Gil does best: natural pools, sun on the rocks, nowhere to be.
